How I Made My Key Holders!

Hello! ๐Ÿ‘‹

August is finally here!  It felt like July lasted forever. Pretty soon it will be the Fall months with Fall colors ๐Ÿ‚, one of my favorite times of year.

My last post was a video of a carve I was working on. That carve is a new edition to my shop, sort of. The carve hasn't made it to my shop yet but two similar ones have. Those two similar objects are Home Key Holders. I have two listed in the shop. One aqua blue with the word Home and a heart painted yellow and one aqua blue with a weathered look, the word Home and heart painted white.

I thought it would be fun to give a little back ground on how I made these key holders. I chose the shape of a house because when you hang up your keys from being gone all day, it's nice to be home. I started by first sanding 3 pieces of pine wood using 120, 180 and 220 grit.

I then carved the shape of the house with my cnc machine. I gave the house shape another quick sand to smooth out any rough edges and stained the houses aqua blue. While staining them I decided to add key holes to the back so the key holders would hang flat against the wall. I also decided I wanted one of them to have a weathered look, so I went over it with my sander using 220 grit. Using my cnc I carved the key holes and the word Home and a heart.

I used Oramask 813 over the front of the carve so I could go back and paint the carve later and not worry about getting paint on the stain. I love using the Oramask, it really makes things easier.

After I finished painting I used polyurethane to give it a nice finish. Once the poly dried I added the hooks. I added 7 gold hooks to hold all kinds of keys. This is the one I stained walnut and it is in the video, but not listed in the shop yet.

I love how the walnut came out ❤️ . It looks lovely. I haven't taken a picture that does it justice, that's why it's not in the shop. Picture taking is a skill I'm constantly learning about, that's for another post.

So, that's how I made my key holders for my shop. They were fun to make and I've been thinking of key holders in other shapes and with sayings. You can check out the two currently listed in my shop Millybeanhandiworks.com or by clicking the picture, which will take you directly to the listing in my Etsy shop.

Thank you so much for visiting. I hope you enjoyed the Key Holder process. If you have any questions or would like to see another process please send me a message, I love hearing new ideas. I have a few cross stitch ideas I'm working on and a few new wood signs. I've been thinking about fall, Halloween and yes the holidays!                                     Happy Crafting!❤️
