Hello March!

I'm so glad March has finally arrived, it means Spring is a little bit closer. I'm looking forward to warmer weather and possibly a vegetable garden. The vegies at the store aren't as good as home grown. I'd like to grow tomatoes and lettuce and maybe a few other vegies. Just something small. Maybe some gardening planning is in my future.

February was a busy month for Milly Bean. I posted on my blog my first Tools of the Trade post. Tools of the Trade is a monthly post I'm doing about the different tools I use. I started with bits for my X Carve in my first post. This month's post will be about cross stitching. I'm working on ideas now and will have a post in 2 weeks.

I also had 2 new releases in the shop. The first one was the  Easter Bunny Pins. These cute little bunny pins are cross stitched on 16 count aida. I used backings for making buttons for the back of the pins and then added a clutch back. These little bunny pins are adorable. I love the little wiskers!

The second one was Let the Hunt Begin... I carved this sign on maple plywood. The eggs and the grass is a drawing I did myself. I scanned my drawing into my computer and was able to load it into the Easel program using one of the Easel Apps. It was really easy to do. I then carved my sign, painted it with acrylic paint, used polyurethane to give the wood a nice finish and then finally embroidered the embellishments on the eggs. I love this sign. It was fun to make and is a neat Easter decoration. Right now there is only 1 in the shop. You can check it out Here.

In workshop news, I had to resurface my wasteboard for my X Carve. All of my signs so far are a certain size, so I didn't notice depth issues. I was working on a new sign idea that was vertical and longer then what I've made before. I noticed depth issues moving from front to back. My wasteboard was not parallel with the y rails.  After a lot of research I resurfaced my wasteboard. I was really nervous that I would destroy it. My husband asked what plan B was if it went wrong and I said we would learn how to make a wasteboard. I resurfaced .075 inches down and I'm happy to say I no longer have depth issues. It worked out great. I couldn't have done it without my husband's help. My new sign idea has perfect depth throughout. If you have depth issues I would first make sure everything was level and tight. I would make sure the spindle was at a right angle with the board. These are all the things I checked and double checked before I resurfaced.

My first newsletter went out March 1. If you were lucky enough to be a subscriber you got a special coupon with the first newsletter. My newsletters will only come out the first of every month. Sometimes they will have coupons, other times a free cross stitch pattern, or just a few tips. Mostly they will be an update of new products and things happening at Milly Bean. If you would like to subscribe you can by clicking Here. My next newsletter will go out April 1.
Happy St. Patrick Day This pattern can be found in my shop!

I hope everyone has a wonderful March! I'll be busy in the workshop. I have lots of sign ideas and can't wait to share them. I'll be posting my Tools of the Trade post for cross stitching here on my blog March 22. I'm also participating in March Meet the Maker by Joanne Hawker on Instagram. Everyday for the month of March I'm posting behind the scenes of Milly Bean Handiworks using the #marchmeetthemaker prompts. If you would like to see what I'm up to you can check out my social media to follow what I'm stitching or carving. I hope everyone has a fantastic week and I look forward to chatting soon!

Happy Crafting!
